Monday started off at Adiar Park in Independence, Missouri with exhibition games all around in the 12 and under division. Nine different pools, consisting of 51 teams of players came out to start the week off right.
In its inaugural début, the USA Elite Select World Fastpitch Championship has brought together some of the best teams across the country for one week of intense softball.
Head coach of the Georgia Impact is looking forward to the week. “We are coming here for the competition. We do not see some of these teams because they do not come to the Southeast,” Gusaeff said.
“We have been working all year and we are hopefully at our peak now. Ideally, we stay injury free,” Gusaeff said.
Hank Jones, head coach of the North Carolina Cardinals, is ready for the practice in Kansas City.
“We are looking forward to the experience. I feel like we are playing better competition. It is a new state, new teams, and new players. We are just trying to prepare them for the future,” Jones said.
Jones has been with a handful of these girls since they were eight years old, but this team in particular has never been this far from home. “ They are a bunch of characters,” Jones said.
When asked what they are looking forward to the most, the dugout of players yelled “WINNING!”
