Success to Significance
To be attending this National event means that your team celebrates success often and is one of the more successful teams in our sport. You celebrate success in many different facets: As a coaching staff, in player development, or in parents supporting their daughters dreams. The one thing in common though, you all embark on a 1 week adventure to try and bring home a World title. The competition will be fierce and college coaches from all over this country will attend to find their future players for their program. The championship trophies will be hoisted up and dogpiles will occur for 4 teams at the conclusion of this incredible week of play. While 238 teams will fall short of this goal of winning the WFC, the truth is that we all can make a difference during these 7 days.
I am Jeremy McDowell, Executive Vice-President of USSSA. I have the honor of hosting each of your teams in my hometown this next week. Within USA Elite Select and USSSA, we believe that softball is the platform that allows us to go way beyond just playing the game. Of course the game is what unites each of us, but the impact we all can make once we lock arms and do something outside of ourselves is immeasurable. One of the pillars the foundation of USA Elite Select stands on is community. Often community can come in many different shapes and sizes, but for this week I believe it comes in over 3,000 players and 1,000 coaches standing behind this rock star named Emma Stumpf. Emma has stolen the heart of many of us at USSSA and we ask now that you allow her to do the same for each of you. Emma?s ultimate goal is to set up an Emma?s Cart at Children?s Hospitals nationwide. Listen to Emma?s story and let?s make the next step in her dream come true by allowing her to check Kansas City off her list. In lieu of a gift exchange this year, we are asking every team to donate through one of the methods listed below.
I started this letter by talking about your team?s success and how I?m sure you guys have met so many goals this year already, but now I am asking you to shift from not only being focused on success, but how to be significant and to make an IMPACT! I believe that we see examples every day across this country where success is never enough and people are always left asking for more, or what is next. In each of these people/situations, you will realize happiness is found when we find our calling or get put in a position to be significant. It is in these times that legacies are built and ultimately left for generations to come.
Coaches and Parents - we lead and guide a generation that wants to help others and be a part of something that makes a difference. Something that matters. I am encouraged and inspired daily by what kids do in their life to impact their peers and adults they come in contact with. Emma I believe has done more in her life than many of us have ever dreamed about, and we have a chance to join Emma during this special WFC week. I have one favor from each team this week and that is for each of you and your teams to support this amazing opportunity and see what our sport is capable of when working together to make an IMPACT.
