16U Spotlight - AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR!

Say hello to the Final Four 16U squads at the 2017 USA Elite Select World Fastpitch Championship!

OC BATBUSTERS – CAMPEBLL

Mark Campbell’s Batbusters is outfitted with power-hitters, solid arms inside the circle and plenty of FloSoftball’s Hot 100’s. The squad, undefeated in the ScrapYard Dawgs bracket, kicked off play on Wednesday with an 11-1 win over Indy Crush-Hansen.  Thursday’s game against the Carolina Fire resulted in a 9-2 victory for the Batbusters before their four-game stretch on Friday.  Friday afternoon’s wins over Texas Bombers Gold and Demarini Aces, 2-1 and 7-0 respectively, just warmed up the bats before their 10-0 win over Indiana Prospects – Runge who pushed through the loser’s bracket earlier in the day.  Batbusters offense has scored 66 runs since the tournament began.  Catch Campbell’s Batbusters today (Satuday, July 15th) at 10:15AM as they begin their run at a 16U World Title against Atlanta Vipers – Moore at Shawnee Mission School District.

ATLANTA VIPERS – MOORE

This year the Vipers added MOORE depth to their pitching staff and more pop to its already potent offense, as noted in Moore’s key players this week. Currently 8-0 on the tournament, Moore’s Vipers have racked up a total of 66 runs scored.  They have fought their way through the Carolina Diamonds Bracket in a series of close calls and now sit in a chair in the Championship Bracket.  Wednesday’s 8-7 victory over Ohio USSSA Pride – Gold prepared the team for Thursday’s 12-2 and 6-5 wins over Tulsa Elite 316 Prospects and KC Gold (Minnis) respectively.  Friday’s three-game stretch allowed for a 5-1 victory over KC Zephyrs – Corona before meeting up with KC Gold (Minnis) for a re-match.  Vipers defeated KC Gold (Minnis) once again, this time with a little more ease in a 12-0 win.  “We have had strong contributions and exceptional performance and leadership all the way up and down the lineup,” says Head Coach Marty Moore.  “Great team play from our group all week.”  Catch Moore and his Atlanta Vipers as they take on OC Batbusters – Campbell today (Saturday, July 15) at 10:15 am at Shawnee Mission School District.

GEORGIA IMPACT – BARFIELD

We can’t say it’s been an easy fight for Georgia Impact – Barfield, but their combined 44 runs in 5 games of the Shougang Eagles bracket says otherwise.  The streak began on Wednesday with a 10-0 win over Sting Select ’00 before winning two games on Thursday versus Texas Blaze Bonola and Originals-Simbeck, 6-3 and 8-0 respectively.  Fans saw two Impact victories on Friday as the team ripped through Team Kulia (5-1) and Hitting Center Elite – Black (15-3) who fought their way through the Loser’s Bracket earlier in the day.  Barfield says that the team owes their success to “stellar pitching and clutch hitting in big situations.” He also added, “I’m extremely proud of how our team has played selflessly and for each other.  Their energy has been incredible, they are making life-time memories.”  Barfield and his Georgia Impact squad face off against Nebraska Gold 16U- Swift today (Saturday, July 15) at 10:15am at Shawnee Mission School District.
